Multi-Sensory Activities for Fine Motor Skills: High Five Jive

Good dexterity is vital in all areas of life, from dressing to handwriting and from turning pages to using a keyboard. ‘High Five Jive’ is an effective and integrated programme, designed to improve and develop:

• Hand & finger strength
• Manipulation & dexterity
• Hand - eye coordination
• Visual perception
• Sequencing skills
• Movement & coordination

Part I consists of 30 interactive multi-sensory activity sheets with increasingly difficult patterns and exercises. These can be used for one hand or both, in sequence or selected as needed, and include guidance notes for the adult. Once these skills have been mastered the children can move on to learn and ‘dance’ the moves for the Hand Jives in Part II.

The skills developed in this program extend across the curriculum integrating literacy, maths, art, music, drama and PSHE and encourage the development of creative thinking skills. EFL teachers will find this a useful and fun tool for developing vocabulary across the curriculum. Ideal for use individually, in small or whole groups, and in mainstream or SEN settings.
