Use short stories, full-colour picture cards, and language activities to develop language skills in the following areas:

  • Describing situations;
  • Expressing needs;
  • Sequencing;
  • Telling Stories;
  • Sharing Feelings;
  • Solving problems.

Part 1 includes 11 short stories. Questions are included on each page of the story. The questions require students to describe story events, to talk about problems in the story, to give explanations, etc. These questions can be asked during the reading of the story or after the story has been presented. Question are asked to elicit a variety of language functions:

  • Describing actions
  • Making comparisons
  • Sharing opinions
  • Identifying causes
  • Solving problems
  • Giving explanations
  • Asking questions
  • Creating stories

The activities in Part 2 are designed for use in conjunction with the full-colour picture cards that accompany the book. Students are asked to respond to questions, to ask questions, to tell stories, and to participate in role-playing activities.

The activities help students to develop narrative skills, vocabulary, and verbal reasoning skills that are critical for success in the classroom.
