Jane Jolly wrote and illustrated "Ami has Asperger's" because she felt there was a need for teachers and students to understand their classmate who has Asperger Syndrome and why she behaved differently in many circumstances. It is written from the point of view of Ami's friend and how she understands and helps Ami at school.
It helped students understand her behaviour and meant they could predict what might happen and help her avoid it. At the end of the story there is an explanation of what is Asperger syndrome, and a list of things you can do to help.
